There is nothing like going out to experience life in its most natural form to escape the tight four corners of your living room space. But to do that, you need to be well-prepared to ensure you have a good time.
First, try to get as much information from local sources and magazines before you pick a hiking trail. Hiking alone is a terrible idea. Many operators hold hiking trips, and it’s always safer to hike as a group. Joining these usually means there will be experienced hikers making it a safe journey for all. These operators also come with a planned itinerary.
When you go hiking, keeping your feet happy is a must. Choose high-quality hiking boots and socks that are moisture-wicking. It is not the place to worry about your wallet. Choose cushiony insoles that will keep your feet comfortable. Blisters are the biggest enemy of all hikers. To avoid these, you could use tapes and plasters on areas that you know are prone to blistering. Apart from your feet, make sure you dress in layers — another thing to remember before hiking is to avoid wearing cotton at all costs. As cotton is very absorbing, it can cause complications. You especially do not want to wear cotton socks. When they inevitably get wet, you will get blisters. Cotton can also sap away body heat, making the body lose heat faster than it can produce heat. Hypothermia is a serious risk.
Know your poisonous plants as it can prevent a lot of pain. Avoid paths that can cause you rashes. But in the case that you do get rashes, you can use apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil. Carry a washcloth to scrub at the affected areas as the oil from the poisonous plant does not come off with just soap and water.
With all the preparations now taken care of, let’s go and add some places to your bucket list.
